Mental Health: Ways to Get that Hygge feeling before bed

Hygee is the Norwegian word for when you feel cosy and content

Here’s something’s you can do to envoke that feeling:

  • Take a bubble bath and use that bath bomb you’ve been saving then take time to moisturise
  • Dry and style your hair for the next day
  • Charge any devices/put out your clothes/get your handbag ready the night before the next day.
  • Light some scented candles
  • When it starts to get dark close your curtains and grab a blanket and a good book.
  • Write a To do list for the week and prioritise what needs to be done
  • Do some guided meditation (I use headspace 10 minutes before bed, calm is another good app)
  • No screens two hours before bed
  • Put on fresh clean pyjamas and warm slippers or socks and wrap yourself up in a dressing gown
  • Cook and eat a healthy filling meal
  • Do some yoga
  • Cuddle a hot water bottle/pillow/ cuddly unicorn
  • Pick some fresh flowers and dot them around the house
  • Drink hot tea/ beverage and a treat
  • Open your window to get some fresh air
  • Listen to some classical music
  • Spray some lavender sleep spray on your pillow
